When nearing the end of a school year in elementary, junior high or in high school, students often question whether or not they should purchase a yearbook at the end of each year. Some students and their families don’t want to shell out the extra costs for the book, and some kids just don’t see the necessity of owning a heavy book filled with silly photos of friends, teachers, staff and people they may not even know. However, there are a few perks to owning a yearbook.Here are three reasons why one shouldn’t pass up owning a school yearbook.

1. Signatures and Sweet Notes

The fact that one can collect signatures and sweet notes from their classmates and favorite teachers may not seem like a necessity now, but later, they will be greatly treasured. These books are a great way to relive memories from the school year, talk about the summer vacation ahead and bid adieu to friends who are moving to different schools or neighborhoods. Phone numbers, funny drawings and sweet departing words from friends can all be acquired in a yearbook.

2. A Blast from the Past

One of the most popular reasons to buy a yearbook is so that the student can hold onto the book for years to come and look back on past memories and how people, fashion and technology have changed throughout the years. Owners will frequently bring out their yearbooks from high school to experience again the happy memories of what it was like to be young.

3. A History Book for Future Generations

Most standard yearbooks dedicate a few pages to some of the pop culture trends from the school year, so it’s exciting to look through these pages decades from now to see what celebrities, movies, TV shows and other entertainment was popular. Some of the funniest things to look back on are how people dressed or did their hair and makeup, and it always makes for a good laugh among friends, children or even grandchildren.

Owning a yearbook is often considered an American pastime, so try not to pass up the opportunity at year’s end. This book of memories, photos and words is a staple to own, and though it may not seem like it now, purchasing a yearbook will be something to be grateful for. Dozens of Choices – How to Narrow Down the Best Brand of Dog Food

Veterinarians are often asked by clients, “What is the best choice of food to feed my dog?”  The answers can vary, but in reality one element to consider is whether you have a puppy or full-grown dog.

Puppy Food vs. Dog Food

There are dozens of pet foods on the market today with many tailored to specific life stages of dogs. Food for puppies, for example, typically has added nutrients such as DHA (an Omega-3 fatty acid) to aid in proper brain and vision development. Food for puppies is also higher in antioxidants than “regular” dog food. The antioxidants protect puppies’ healthy cells, which in turn, promote healthy growth and development.

As you can imagine, puppies have lots of energy, which requires additional calorie intake.  Hence, their food should also be higher in protein and fat. If you choose to feed your puppy a diet without the necessary high protein and fat content that his body requires, you’d have to feed him/her larger quantities of food, which isn’t sensible—health-wise or financially. Plus, puppies require more minerals than full-grown dogs, so most puppy food has higher levels of calcium and phosphorus. As an added bonus, many puppy foods are softer and more digestible since puppies’ digestive systems aren’t fully developed.

If you’re looking for a high-quality food for older dogs, on the other hand, keep a close eye on the ingredients.  Both you and your dog want to avoid ingredients such as the following:

• Bone meal

• Lard

• Vegetable oil

• BHA

• BHT

• Artificial sweeteners (glucose, fructose, sucrose, etc.)

• Excessive grains

• Meat byproducts

• Artificial preservatives

All of these ingredients together make for an unhealthy doggie diet that won’t do much good for your furry friend. Instead, look for all natural ingredients that actually sound appetizing, such as real meat (ideally either the first or second ingredient), whole grains and fruits and vegetables.

Whether you have a puppy or full-grown dog, be careful not to continually switch food brands based on what is on sale in a given week. Switching foods should only be done due to a dog having a food allergy, skin problems, a sensitive stomach or other health issues.

So, what is the best dog food? It’s the food that is the most nutritious, that you can afford and that your pet enjoys. Stock up on that brand and flavor when you find sales so that you can maintain a consistent diet for your pooch. The concept of being involved with a child’s education has grown significantly in recent years, and many parents have decided that the best way to begin their children’s education is to start their schooling at home. 2. Create a rich learning environment for your child.

This will help your child feel comfortable within a learning setting, while helping the two of you obtain a mindset for learning. The Best Way To Give Your Cat A Bath At Home

Just the thought of giving your cat a bath may worry you a little. It’s quite obvious that cats like to stay nice and neat and they dread ever being put in water let alone a bathtub full of it.

Whether your cat has gotten into something messy or they just need a nice cleaning, a bath is something you should consider. Now, in order for this to be successful, you may want to consider a few of these tips before you start bathing.

How to give a cat a bath:

Bathtub: First, consider giving your cat a bath in the bathtub. It’s a good level for you and your cat. If you don’t like this idea, consider doing it in a utility type tub. This is higher up and may prevent them from jumping out.

Make the temperature comfortable: Make sure you fill the tub with lukewarm or warmer water. You want to make your cat as comfortable as possible – if that is possible! 

Consider cat treats: Cats love treats so you may want to grab a bag and set them by the bathtub. Now, put the cat in the tub and instantly give them the treat. They may shriek so much that they don’t even want it, but try to calm them down and reward them. Give them a few every minute or two.

If the cat is a kitten, consider giving them small pieces of kitten food instead. This is smaller and easier to give them.

Make it quick: Don’t expect your cat to sit in the tub for a long time. They feel embarrassed that their coat doesn’t look nice and fluffy and just the feeling of sitting in water is enough to make them feel depressed and scared. Simply pour water on them, rub in some soap and rinse it out. It’s as simple as that. Don’t expect them to play in the tub like a dog would.

Dry them off: Once you’re done rinsing them, get a towel ready to dry them off. Hold them for a little bit while still in the towel so that they feel secure and warm. Now dry their coat and even consider blow drying them and brushing them on a warm heat.

Blow drying may sound silly, but it’s actually a good idea. You see, a cat will continue to lick itself constantly in order to get their hair the way they want it. Now, if you brush it and blow dry it that leaves them with a lot less work to do.

As you can see, giving a cat a bath isn’t hard, but it’s not that easy either. Consider these tips and only do this on a rare occasion so you don’t dry out their skin and cause dandruff.

Navy Cruise Books- Log Books for Historical and Personal Use

The first naval log books were records of journeys kept to help future navigators traverse the waters safely. The first of these books, known as peripli or rutters, often contained anecdotes and descriptions of the events and the people and places encountered on these long sea journeys. The information contained in these comprehensive naval logs could make the difference between a successful voyage and becoming marooned or, worse yet, being lost at sea during the journey. As a result, the theft of rutters was a real threat, especially for routes that were not well-known to navigators. Trade routes to the East Indies, for example, were monopolized by the Portuguese trading ships before the rutters used to make the journey became public knowledge. The trade routes then became accessible for other countries, and Portuguese dominance over the East Indies trade was broken.

Diplomatic Influences and Historical Value

Because these log books offered detailed descriptions of various geographical locations including landmarks, harbor conditions and trade requirements, they were often considered to be of great historical value and often influenced the opinions and diplomatic approaches taken by the powers of Europe toward these locations. Log books and the descriptions provided by sailors returning from their voyages were among the only sources of information available on these far distant lands, and thus, they were regarded as valuable foreign intelligence on possible allies and enemy nations.

Naval Log Books Today

Today, naval log books are used to maintain a record of people and places encountered during tours of duty and to provide historical records of notable events that occurred during the time period covered by the log. Also known as navy cruise books, these commemorative volumes are usually made available to the crew and families to help them remember their colleagues and the achievements and challenges met during their time in the service. Naval logs may cover one year or one tour of duty, or they may chronicle the entire history of a particular vessel and its crew. Typically, these log books include photographs not only of the ports of call and the ship itself, but of the crew and the various departments and divisions within the ship.

Memories to Last a Lifetime

Naval log books can be published to commemorate reunions, to mark a specific cruise or tour of duty, to honor fallen comrades or simply to provide a keepsake volume that can be shared with family and friends that will give current and former members of the U.S. Navy many hours of happy reminiscing for years to come.
